μaOH (The AMR & One Health Lab at Queen's University Belfast is driving research into understanding and tackling antimicrobial resistance in microbiomes of living systems

Learn More

μaOH Lab is based at The School of Biological Sciences at Queens University Belfast, relying on the supportive professional atmosphere found in this community.

We know how important AMR research is and how much it relates to solving global One Health challenges. We are open to collaboration and provide comprehensive and future-proof training to our students and visiting researchers.

About the Lab

We are a vibrant, supportive and multicultural team, which you'll soon find to be a home away from home

Our research in antimicrobial resistance focuses on three broad areas in the human-veterinary-agri interface:

  • Understanding antimicrobial resistance in microbiomes from a One Health perspective through surveillance and epidemiological studies.

  • Tackling antimicrobial resistance through the discovery and development of novel treatment options for various multi drug resistant infections.

  • Exploring microbiome interactions for the development of diagnostic tools.

Very huge thanks to Dr Oyama for giving me the opportunity to work in the lab with her, She has taught me a lot about antimicrobial peptides, planning and conducting assays and report writing. Also very grateful to the laboratory staff and other researchers for guiding me along the way and having small talks as we were doing routine lab activities. Overall a satisfying experience, allowing me to gain knowledge and skills relevant to biological and chemical sciences, as well as transferable skills like network and communication, data processing and organisation. I had a very productive summer and I thank the team for the great time!
