about this project

Are you a dog owner or vet and live in Northern Ireland?  You are invited to take part in a research study which is part of a PhD project at Queens University Belfast. Your involvement will help us make more effective decisions in pet care, ensuring antimicrobials and other medicines remain effective for future generations.

What is the purpose of the study?

The research as part of a PhD project at Queens University Belfast. It is a groundbreaking initiative to understand how antibiotics and other medicines (antimicrobials) are used in companion animals/pets, specifically dog, and how dog owners make decisions about the treatment of their dogs. The rise of superbugs presents a significant health challenge for both humans and animals. The World Health Organization warns that, by 2050, these infections could lead to approximately 10 million deaths annually. While substantial progress has been made in human medicine and food producing animals regarding resistant infections/superbugs, research concerning companion animals has been limited, especially in Northern Ireland. This study seeks to fill that gap.
